Al-Sabah Al-Jadid

Al-Sabah Al-Jadid (“The New Morning”) was established in 2004 by Ismail Zayer, the former editor-in-chief of the prominent Iraqi Al-Sabah (“Morning”) newspaper. Zayer launched the new paper to counter what he considered undue influence by the United States on Al-Sabah’s content following the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Zayer, his staff-members, and his family have been the targets of violent attacks since the publication’s founding.

With offices in Baghdad and the northern province of Erbil, the paper boasts a broad daily distribution area of its print edition across Iraq, in addition to an online edition. Both offer in-depth coverage of local Iraqi current events and international news, as well as economic, cultural, and opinion pieces. Al-Sabah Al-Jadid maintains correspondents across the Middle East, Europe, and in the United States.
