Tariq al-Hashimi currently serves as the Vice-President of Iraq. Considered a moderate Sunni Arab, Hashimi has led both the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party as well as the Sunni Accord Front (Tawafuq), Iraq’s largest Sunni coalition. He opposes Iraqi federalism and supports greater integration of Iraqi Sunni’s into the nation’s police forces. Hashimi lost three of his siblings to sectarian violence since 2003.
