Slim Riahi

Slim Riahi (1972-  ) is a Tunisian businessman made wealthy by the investment and oil sectors who, after the 2011 revolution, emerged as the leader and financier of the Free Patriotic Union Party (UPL).  Raised in Libya by expatriate dissident Tunisian parents, Riahi was largely unknown before his emergence on the political scene after the revolution.  Because of the massive amounts of funding he channeled into the political campaign for UPL, Tunisia banned political advertising in September 2011.  Rumors have plagued Riahi’s political efforts, including those which would tie him to former Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddhafi or to former Tunisian president Ben Ali’s son, Seif al-Islam.
