Lutfullah Saafi Gulpayegani

Born in 1337 Hijri, in the City of Gulpaygan, Iran, to a highly educated family, he started studying Islamic jurisprudence at his early ages in his home town. At the age of 20 he moved to Qom to benefit from the scholarly environment of this center for Islamic jurisprudence. The Grand Ayatollah Saafi has to date authored over a hundred books on various topics is Islam. Upon the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the Ayatollah was elected a member of the first Assembly of Experts. He was appointed a member of the Guardian Council by the Leader Ayatollah Khomeini. The Ayatollah conceded the position as a "source of emulation" upon the decease of the Grand Ayatollah Gulpaygani in 1993.
