Aboelzahab Farooq holds a BA in Arabic Language and Theology from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt in 1978 and two diplomas in Arabic and Theology also from Al-Azhar University from 1986. From 1974 to 1978 he worked as Imam for the Ministry of Al-Awqaf (Islamic Call) Egypt; from 1978 to 1982 he worked as an Imam and teacher for the Arabic language and Islamic studies in different religious institutions and mosques in Egypt. From 1982 to 1986 he was a delegate for the Al-Azhar administration to the International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan, where he taught Arabic and Islamic studies. From 1986 to 1989 he taught Arabic and Islamic studies at Al-Azhar institutions in Egypt, and worked as Imam at the Mosque for Al-Awqaf Ministry. From 1989 to 1991 he was sent by the Al-Azhar administration to assist the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, in Perrrysburg, Ohio. From 1991 to 1998 he worked as the Imam and Director of the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1998 he returned to the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo to be Imam and Director.
