Sheikh Emad Effat (b. August 15, 1959 in Egypt) was the Chairman of the Fatwa Committee in the Fatwa House in Egypt from 2003-2011. Effat received his Bachelor's in Arabic language in 1991 from Ain Shams University in Egypt. He also completed a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Law from al-Azhar University in 1997 and a diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) from the same University in 1999. In 2000, Effat earned another diploma in the Shari’a Law from the school of Daar al-‘Oloum (“The House of Knowledge”) in Cairo. Sheikh Effat was shot to death 16, 2011 during clashes between protesters and the police in the front of the cabinet building in Cairo while he was trying to calm the situation between the security forces and the demonstrators.
