Summary: Tunisian Radio Station Mosaique FM released preliminary, partial voting results very early Monday morning, putting Islamist party Ennahdha at the head of almost every district followed by the party of a famous former Ben Ali opponent and exile, Moncef Marzouki: the center-left Congress for the Republic (Congrès pour la république – CPR). Another leftist party, the “People’s Petition for Liberty, Justice, and Development” (La pétition populaire pour la liberté, la justice et le développement) also allegedly enjoyed a surprising amount of success, notably in the “birthplace” of the revolution, Sidi Bouzid, where Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in front of the government’s office, sparking a mass protest movement that would soon after reach the capital. Up to the elections, this leftist party had received virtually no press coverage.
The results below are notably incomplete; this is particularly evident when the number of votes cast in a polling station greatly exceeds the number of votes given to the noted parties. Some results also list the number of votes; others list the percentage of total votes at the polling station. This has been indicated.
