The sit-in at the dean’s office in Manouba University was  lifted yesterday, January 5, 2012 with the intervention of the Tunisian police and security forces. Students are expected to resume their classes today.

For more than a month classes and exams were put on hold. Classes had been suspended since November 28, 2011 by the dean of the university, Habib Kazdaghli,  who saw that the university situation in terms of ambiance and even security was not favorable. The sit-in was organized by a group of students and other supporters calling for the right for students wearing Niqab to attend classes.

Following continuous negotiations between the spokesperson of the sit-in and security forces leaders, both parties reached a solution that entailed changing the location of the sit-in to the garden of the university. The protesters already occupied the paths leading to the administration building.
