Saleh al-Fouzan of Saudi Arabia responds to the query: Why is celebrating birthdays forbidden?

Conducting processions to commemorate certain occasions or people, having memoirs, or statues built in memory, pictures, photographs are all various forms of innovation or bida't (innovation) in religion, not approved as Muslim practices. People follow other cultures in these practices, and they are not in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
