Head covering for women is a cherished part of Muslim social custom and tradition, but it is not a directive of the shariah (Divine law). Ghamidi believes that the Quran mentions khamr or khumur (an article of clothing for women) only as a 7th century Arabian dress, and gives no specific command for women to wear it.

ان آیتوں مین کوِی مستقل حکم نہ تھا، بلکہ ایک وقتی تدبیر تھی جواوباشون کے شر سے مسلمان عرتوں کو محفوظ رکھنے کے لیے اختیار کی گئ۔
