Islam and Education

Education has been viewed as a key tool for political change and development of the citizenry under the post-colonial regimes of Tunisia, especially in regards to the encouragement of societal secularism and a reformist view of Islam.  The religious curriculum as developed by the Ben Ali regime is known for being one of the most tolerant in the Arab world, yet its place in the public school system still strongly reflects the relationship between state and religion.
